xj550 seca rear wheel ascue?

    hi again..when checking out my seca i notice rear wheel to left of center about a inch??did po looses spacer? anyone got pic of rear axle proper orintation? thanx again

    do you have any spacers? there is indeed supposed to be two in there.

    No prob! glad you got it figured out!

    As shown in the pic, the collared spacer goes on the non-drive side

    as i figured but a pic is worth as they say..thanx again.manual in the mail.but gotta geta start on her..any idea of a source for the glass in the gauges? :lol: :lol:

    The 120-mph speedo was from a "canned" instrument, don't remember what bike. If you'll note from the retrofit article, the angle on the back side of the frame and input stub is different.

    You're better off trying to find a "cluster" instrument; they come in 120mph, 125, 135, 150, etc., depending on donor bike.

    What I like about the 150mph unit is that when I'm in top gear, the needles are pretty much in the same positions, like on my car's IP.

    OCD much? haha no, I know what you mean I like clocks that do that too.

    On my bike I should just be able to swap the instrument face right? I have 240Km/h so a 150 face I'm guessing would work...

    Nice post, you do some great work for the forums 8)

    Thanks, I'll leave well enough alone then! Guess on second thought it makes more sense to keep the Km/h clock for if I ever sell this bike to put back to original anyhow.

    Just because it says 150 doesn't mean it'll do it, lol.

    Top speed on the stock 550 seca's is around 110 iirc.

    For the speedo swap?

    Here's a bit from ghost-

    "The speedo used by Fitz was also used on the 84-85 FJ600. The FJ600 cluster being the same as the XJ900 did not have the built in digital clock.

    I'm personally going to try swapping in those of a fz600 from an 86, depending if I can find them for cheap enough. They also have an electronic tach so I'm going to do that swap as well.


    I'm not in a huge hurry so I've just been keeping my eye on ebay.

    The fj600 cluster is ALMOST the same thing as the xj900. As stated above, there is the time clock difference, but there is also some slight differences in some of the faces, too. ALSO, there are some slight differences to the back cover. Some of the back covers had metal plates which were apparently there to aid in spreading the bolt stresses more evenly.

    When I'm back into the box of fj600/xj900 gauge parts, I'll try to see if I can see other differences.
