done...made and welded on new shock mounts just slightly towards the front of the swing arm, gave me about 1 to 1.5 inches of lift, with the front lowered so far no ill effects on handling, but I haven't gotten past 2nd gear on account of my carbs not working right and the bike not finished, now I'm snow bound   , I'll see if I can get a pic for you in a bit!

Good to know that you've got some more progress on it. I'm looking forward to finding some smaller sprockets to get some speed out of mine. I was going to convert to mono-shock, but I think I'll save that for next year. But if you ever come across anything that is a smaller tooth count or whatever let me know.

I can't wait to get started on mine, I just have no time right now lol...

Re: XJ550 Project bike, "pic heavy"

well time to get back on this again, I've been working on my GSXR mostly over the winter, alot of new parts and a new paint job, along with working on a few snowmobile and bikes for my friends, mostly paint jobs and body work... so I felt the XJ needed some attention again...

heres a pic of the paint job I gave the GSXR:

I was given a tank by my buddy of his '01 GSXR, so I started the task last night of graphing it on the stock tank, it's going to take a bit of time to the lines get right but I think I'm on the right path

first I had to cut the bottom out of it, and then chop the front off to clear the triple and so the seat and tail would fit...

    and heres the pieces:

and here's how it sits as of now:

it's a slow build I know  but I'm hoping to have it done by the end of June or early July... fingers crossed... 8)

took the bike out doors yesterday and done some more chopping and welding, used some tape and flat black paint for mock up and get the shape of the tank and tail , along with the tail light... decided to go with one pipe... still got a ways to go though ...

well so far theres mostly Yamaha, a little bit of Kawi (Tail light) and Suzuki (gas tank) in the bike, all I need is a part off a Honda and I should have most of the major brands covered

    Little more done:

doing the R1 tail over with carbon fiber:

    resin applied:

also doing the headlight bezel in carbon fiber:

decided to lower the gauges and head light a couple if inches:

Had to pie cut frame, bend and welded it so the new tail frame I am making will fit contour of the R1 tail:

hope to have the tank done by next weekend... I know, it's a very slow process

    Looking good!

I was thinking about covering all my tins in the carbon fiber, I think it looks sick!

I got to say it does look good, but is a bit of a pain to work with (can't use any filler to fix imperfections), not to mention it costs a few bucks, luckily I was given a big sheet of military grade carbon fiber courtesy of the Canadian Air Force

Great project, looks like you have 100's of hours into it. Can't wait to see it when completed, if that ever happens haha
