I was recently given an 82 XJ550j (as far as I'm told). The previous owner failed to put stabil in the fuel one winter and had carb issues the next year. He completely disassembled the carbs, put them in a box and never put anything back together. I took inventory of all the parts, and have been able to order the main jets (3 missing) the pilot jets (2 missing and two jacked up screw slots) and a few washers that are missing. What I'm stuck on is what a parts diagram calls the "pilot screw." I believe i have found one reference calling them a mixture screw. I have three of the 4 pilot screws, and no washers/ o-rings. I can't find anywhere on the internet that actually sells these parts, only how to adjust them. Anyone have a source?

    Thanks.

The one that says "Everything XJ" and "Click Here for Catalog."

    Mikuni exploded and labeled: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=31061.html

Is your 550 a Seca (4U8) or a Maxim (5K5) check the shorty VIN on top of the trans housing if unsure.

    From the XJ4Ever catalog:

OEM Mikuni IDLE MIXTURE SCREW SET is correct for all original XJ550, XJ650 Turbo, XJ700-X, XJ750-X, and XJ900 carbs.

Each complete set contains one brass slot-headed idle mixture adjustment Screw, the mixture screw Spring, the spring Washer, and the sealing O-Ring. NOTE: the tension spring contained in this kit is not the correct length for the XJ650 Turbo, XJ900RK, or XJ1100 models, but will work.

HCP3745 OEM Mikuni IDLE MIXTURE SCREW SET....contains the brass idle mixture screw, spring, spring washer, and the o-ring.

Thanks, I have found everything I need to order through the typed Catalog thread. ( http://www.xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=14561.html ) What is the best procedure for ordering through them? is there a paypal link or order page or do I just email my info?

Len takes good care of his "flock."

You haven't told us how many miles on the bike, but be aware:

the valve clearances were supposed to have been checked at 3000 miles, then again every 5000 thereafter. This was often ignored; and if ignored long enough will damage the motor (burn a valve.)

It's also necessary to have the valve clearances in spec to get a good vacuum sync.

But before that, be sure to WET-SET your float levels as accurately as possible; Mikunis are very finicky about their float levels.

Lots of 550 fans here; and I can tell you from raw experience the "small bore" nature of the 550s rewards patience and precision.

Plus we gotta talk brakes: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=15874.html Front, too. (Or you can find out the hard way.)

Welcome aboard; we love a good 550 around here.
