XJ650 Maxim electrical connector question

Hi guys, so I just bought my first XJ an 81 XJ650 Maxim. Some of the wiring seems to be missing and I figured you would be the best to help out. Thanks!

So I know where the single red wire goes, but the blue striped/black connector was connected to the starter relay. The starter relay is red striped/ blue striped so I figured that was incorrect. So where does the blue striped/ black connector go?

And lower towards the ignitor there is a single black striped wire with a connector that I don't know where it goes either.

 

That one is for your clutch safety switch wiring. Double check wire colours on the switch under the left handlebar.

 

There are no wires except the ones coming from the headlight/turn signal control. There is a broken off plastic piece that sticks out a little bit..... Is it necessary to have it connected to start the bike?

 

Only if you want to start while in gear, say for example if the bike stalled at an intersection it would be nice to just pull in the clutch and press the start button and not have to fiddle with finding neutral first.

I would guess that is supposed to go to the igniter for the ignition safety cutoff, but if you truly have a 1981 that feature wasn't utilized - you won't have a side stand switch or side stand relay either if it is a 1981. Perhaps someone installed a different harness on the bike??

 

Thanks, I guess i'll order a new switch, and just put some tape over the wire.
