I bought an '82 XJ650 and turns over, there's power at the coils, but there's no spark at the plugs.

Also, what are these plugs for?

Welcome to the forum. Take some time and do a search for some wiring information on your bike. That and it would be a great idea to get a shop manual for your bike.

Looks to me like you could be missing a few things on the bike. Some of those things are important for the bike to start, run and charge.

See if you can find a wiring diagram and then trace out the wires to places they should be going. The diagrams will be at the back of the books.

Good luck and congrats on the new bike and project.

    Thank you for the non-advice.

I do have the Haynes manual and I have searched the forum.

I don't own a Ferrari but I could go to a Ferrari forum and give someone the same advice, "Search the forum and refer to the user's manual.". What's the use of that?

You wrote, "Looks to me like you could be missing a few things on the bike. Some of those things are important for the bike to start, run and charge." Of course, I'm missing a few things, it's very apparent in the photo of the plugs. I joined the forum hoping for advice from people more knowledgeable than myself about the XJ series.

If you can identify the plugs, it'd be nice to say what they are. If you can't, oh well.
    Again, thanks.

There is likely more info needed. Maybe take pics of the upper bike so people can see what is missing. take off the left cover too where the regulator and other relays are. maybe take pics of a wider view so people can see where the connectors are. Looks like your above the engine but can't tell if they are in front or behind. Not all that many 3 pin connectors on the bike looking at my electrical. also showing wire colors of the wires going to each switch is helpful. ONe thing that would be helpful is to buy a manual if you can off ebay cause it also should have electrical in the back of it. Mine did

This is my first time building a Yamaha, so I know next to nothing about them. I usually build Ducatis. When someone on a Ducati forum asks me to identify a plug or part, I just answer the question if I know the answer. If I don't, I don't tell them to Google it.

@JeffXJ650 Just trying to help you out without doing the work for you. Most of use like to encourage a owner of a motorcycle project to get involved with the bike. Good luck with your project.

I"m just a noob here on this forum but just consider that based on the information you provided, no one KNOWS what those connectors are for.

3 pin flat looks like the generator lead.
2 pin flat green looks like the clutch or brake switch.
3 pin round I have no idea.
4 pin flat hmmm... Low current that's for sure.
Are these plugs all at the same end of the harness?
Is it at the headset or near the battery box?

Oh and... Not sure about the other guys but I replaced pretty much every single connector with Deutsch plugs as the plugs and a lot of the harness was rotted.
    So yeah.
Identification is more based on the colour of wires and location in the harness.
