Under the rubber boot on the right side handlebar brake lever is a Philips screw with a lock nut. This screw is what pushes on the master cylinder valve that applies the front brake. What is the proper adjustment of the screw? Right now it's set to just start to push on the cylinder as the brake light comes on.

I adjust mine with a little play 3mm before it starts to push mc what you are looking for is full brake lever pull and braking with out hitting on the grip area.
