Sporties are not fast, they are quick. But....they aren't as quick as a well tuned four cylinder. Figures (HP & torque) aside, they Yammie will walk all over the Harley just like the Kaw Mach I walked all over everything in its day, and will still walk all over most things.Multi-cylinder bike rev up so much faster than big flywheel v-twins. The Harley takes longer to rev up and tops out at a much lower RPM. I owned Harleys most of my life and even a 650RJ scares the bejeebers out of me. No H-D ever did that regardless of displacement. If I had to bet on the outcome of a race between the XL and the XJ my money would be on the Yammie all the way!

Hmmm. I'm of the opinion that we're comparing apples and oranges -- a 700cc engine vs one that's been bored out to almost twice that.

I think a more fair test would be to run the race against a Sportster with a stock 883 engine; actually, it might be interesting to run against both engines and compare the results.

I had a big multi-variable calc exam yesterday that I've been studying for so I haven't checked this thread in awhile. I am excited and maybe a bit surprised on the amount of feedback I got. Thanks everyone for all the support on this thread!

So far we still have a bit of snow on the ground but were getting close to hitting the 50's pretty soon. Hopefully it will be warm enough to ride soon. Then they have to clear all that darn salt off the road.

Oh and by the way guys my XJ was a barn bike before I brought her back to life. So it's only got about 8,000 miles on it :p

That's the story of a good majority of XJ's on this forum... My 550 spent 20 years collecting dust. It had 8700 miles when I got it, and now it's just over 13K.
