I've got a customers xj700n, and I'm cleaning and tuning the carbs. The problem is, my 5 year old got a hold of the side springs, and destroyed 3 of them. I found 1 on ebay that's the same, and ordered several that were not the correct parts. Is the same carb used on another bike? The xj700x has different springs, evidently I got 5 of those, but I only have 2 for the n. I really don't want to buy a full set of carbs just for the springs, but I can't give this bike back to the customer in worse condition, let alone completely inoperable. But at the same time, I really don't want to have $800 into a $500 job, but I'll do what I have to do.

Sorry, I don't have the spring answer. Just wanted to say I could hear the Slinky theme song while reading that! Tough break.

I can understand why a 5yo would like to play with them - basically indistinguishable from a slinky!

The XJ700N uses the Hitachi HSC33 carbs, which are different from the older 650s and 750s that use the HSC32 (on the models with Hitachis).

I'm not sure if the springs from HSC33 are the same as HSC32 - but I guess I wouldn't bet on it.

@chacal has aftermarket replacements - I think the catalog number is HCP19366 (need verification, could be wrong).
Search "HCP19366" on this page: https://www.xjbikes.com/forums/threads/xj-parts-catalog-section-c-fuel-system.44642/

Somebody probably has some laying around. You could try a "Wanted" post in the "For Sale, Trade/Swap, Wanted" section of this forum.

I may have one or two HSC33 springs sitting around - I will look.

For cost vs. risk vs. time, getting some from @chacal is probably the best option.
