Some nice looking RL's there. Mine's a bit of an ugly duckling in comparison.

    45T-000149 here :)

    Can't help myself!
I just won number 45T-000242 on eBay.
It will eventually look good sitting next to 45T-000108
Looks very very rough, but it's mostly all there.
The best part is it was in my home town of Goulburn NSW, no travelling to collect it.
    Cheers, John

My thoughts are that Yamaha was in a bike-building war with Honda, and built soooo many SECA 750 motors - that they ended up putting some leftovers in the "900" chassis, the "TURBO" and "650" chassis as well, then continued to build "Police" bikes.

This would require them to stamp the VIN on the motor during assembly.

Notice JONMARQ's motor is silver, XJ750RL's is black.

I don't know why but all the Red/Silver XJ750Rls seem to have black motors while the Blue/White ones have silver motors.
It also appears Australia only got the Blue/White version and the Red/Silver was Europe and Canada.
Does anyone know the production dates for the Red/Silver colour version, Interested to know if they were built as a second production run.

Hey Johmarq.... 108...I have your bikes slightly younger brother ...109....

@ time to ride .... Australian XJ750RL's use an unpainted motor.
I had mine hydroblasted and not a spot of paint on it.
Canadian RL motors may all be black though ?

Time a few of us (Aussie) 750 45T owners got in touch ... any takers?

Mine is 45T 000194 registered and running but has carb tuning issues related to mismatching carb slides ... presently sorting.

Since nobody's really answered this for you: what it is, from a North American market point of view (parts wise especially) is essentially a 750 Seca motor in an XJ900 frame and bodywork.

I'm not sure about Canada, but down here us Yanks only got the 900 for one year, '83 (XJ900RK.)

Here she is ... just as her maker intended :D

Incidentally these scans are from a pristine original sales brochure I have for this model .. I'm going to get hi res scans done and have it printed up as a wall poster for my garage ... If any of you 45T owners would like a copy PM me and I'll do it at cost plus postage.

And if looking at a brochure like that doesn't send you off for a polishing session in the garage ... nothing will !!!

There is some ambiguity over the R and RL designations ... from what I can make out they are identical, if you know otherwise please let me know.

Essentially it IS a 900 frame with a 750 engine, BUT it has HSC33 Hitachi carbs with Y18 needles, #41 pilots and #106 mains so do not expect US 750 Seca carbs to be the same.

The US models also seem to have two small breather holes in the carb slides whereas the Aussie models had one large one. You need to refer to the manual "supplement" for specific regional differences. PM me if you need more info.

    The other main differences are:

    No anti dive
    Low ratio gearing
Three dial instrument cluster per "some" XJ900's (which?) My 900 has the two single instruments, the drop bars and the short fairing but it is the year later model)

Also .. the TCI's are not directly interchangeable .. but the loom can be modified to suit

The 750 has an Australian compliance plate with R on it but all the service documentation refers to RL ... I know of Australian models with RL on the compliance plate and mine had an old rego with RL on it ...

The R means Seca, the L means 1984.

The tci will be different because it's a different engine.

the 900rk should have the same three-guage set as shown on the 750rl

The carbs will be different because the engines are different

USA 750 secas were other years. We did not get the 750 RL

The fairings were the larger frame-mounted fairing not the small fork mounted fairing of the early 900rk's.

Not sure what you mean by the 'drop bars'

As you're signature indicates that you have a 1985 XJ900, there are going to be differences from the 83 900rk, and the 84 750rl.

I was under the impression the 45T had a longer duration on the cam as well.

Huh. I never knew that later XJ900's got a bigger fairing. The bodywork is identical to the FJ600. Wonder how that happened...

Looking closely at all three, it's amazing the similarities. The only major difference I see is the rear grab bar. The 750RL also featured FJ1100 style rear view mirrors, I notice.

Check out the identical rims and rotors on all three.

Would love to see all 3 in person or at least side to side.
