    Did all check xj650s come with the yics? because my parts bike says it on the motor but my rider doesn't?

    Not all did. Whether it did or not depends on what year, and what model. For the 650 Maxim, 1982 was the transition year to the YICS engine. Early '82 650 Maxims got the last of the non-YICS engines.

    Ok thanks my rider is an 81 and I'm told the parts bike is an 80 and it has the yics on the motor

    Your parts bike would only have a YICS engine as a transplant. The crankshaft covers are interchangeable, and it's pretty common to see YICS covers on earlier bikes. The real telltale (aside from the short VIN on the case) is the valve cover. Those don't interchange.

    To state the obvious, YICS cover will say YICS on it. Big bold letters at the end of the fins, usually silver.
