    Hello all,
    I just bought a 1982 Seca 550 for $250.
Non-running but mostly complete. I wasn't really looking for a new bike but I was looking for a winter project. I found one.

The last bike I owned was a Honda Nighthawk 450 that ran but was smashed up. Not a problem for me. I worked at a bodyshop.

I think I painted that bike about ten times. but had to do little to it mechanically.

This bike is missing the ignition and a few other things.

My first step will be purchasing a manual for it and then asking lots of questions here.

    Bruce.

Welcome from VA! Bigfitz is the guru on the 550 Secas. I am sure he will help you out with whatever you need help with. This site has been very beneficial to me as well as others. Best of luck with your winter project. Be sure to add your location and any other information that might be helpful to your signature. Someone might be close to you to lend a hand if you get in a bind.

Hello from NW Arkansas! Welcome to the XJ world. I had a 650 Nighthawk and they are known for being easy to maintain, you mostly just change fluids and replace wear items (brakes, tires, etc.) But that comes with a price, when something does go wrong. Hydraulic valves are expensive to replace (and add weight up high where you don't really want it)
You got a good deal on your bike, and you've already found the place to go for advice. I'm betting you'll enjoy this one more than the hawk. Doing the maintenance gives you a feeling of satisfaction, knowing it's right. Plus in a pinch the skills will work for most any engine. Have fun and post pictures!

You're going to have a lot of time to work on your project. Don't you have a riding season of about 2 weeks a year? I mean - after 8 months of winter, 2 months of football, and 2 weeks of black fly weather? I guess it's a good thing you don't have to worry about a post regular season hockey season! har har har - greetings from BC

C'mon... we aren't that far away. I have about a two month riding season. I don't watch football. There are no black flies in the much larger city of Edmonton than yours.

And... how did the post season go for your NHL team? :D
