82 maxim xj750 fuel tank

Hey guys, new to the xj brotherhood and I've been searching and searching for the size fuel tank on a 82 maxim... it's running but not well enough to get it to a gas station to fill it and a few threads I've seen have said its either 3.46 gal or 4.76 so I'm just trying to rough estimate what I'd get for milage or what any other 82 maxim xj750 riders are pulling. Thx for any help!!!

 

The Maxim tank is 3.43 gallons, aproximately. You can't get any of the 0.03 gallons in the bottom of the tank into the carbs, and you wouldn't want to anyway, because that's where any condensation ends up sitting.

In a well-tuned state you should be getting around 40MPG on average, assuming that you ride conservatively and aren't fighting the wind.
