New rider needs some info

    Hey Guys, I just bought a 1981 Seca 550 and so far have done a bit of work to it. I just got my license a couple months ago and wanted to buy an inexpensive bike that needed some work so I could get some experience riding and fixing it up. So far I've found that this bike is a ton of fun to ride especially for a beginner.
    I was wondering where a good place to get replacement bulbs might be found. The illuminator bulbs for my speedometer and tachometer are out and the only time I can tell how fast I'm going at night is when I ride under a street light. :lol: Thanks for any ideas.

    The bulb is a common 12V 3W 194-base indicator bulb. You might take the opportunity to replace the bulbs with 5-element LEDs.

    I did it (only for the illumination lamps, too bright in the indicators) and they work a world better than stock. I got mine here: http://www.hipoparts.com/product_info.p ... cts_id=572 but they are also commonly available.

    Hey thanks for the links and tips. I just got back in from changing the bulbs with some replacements from an auto parts store. I might buy the LEDs you recommended though since the replacements are a bit dim. Funny thing happened when I finished. My tachometer and speedometer are a bit sluggish now since I had to take out the cables to get the gauge housing off. Any reason?

    On 2 wheels... just lost my hat.
    do you have any sharp bends in the cable or tweak it hard when you pulled them out of the housing?
    other than that, some graphite may be in order in the cables.

    You know I did kind of tweak it a bit when I removed it. You think if I just try to straighten it out it would fix the problem?
